Rihanna gets political at Tel Aviv concert

Update: Haaretz has now retracted its story:

The original headline for this article has been changed (from “All Rihanna sees ‘is Palestine,’ but Israelis didn’t seem to care”) and part of a sentence was removed from the story (“in “Pour it Up” instead of “All I see is signs / All I see is dollar signs,” she subbed in “All I see is Palestine.”) Upon reviewing video footage of the show posted after publication, it is clear that the change in lyrics attributed to Rihanna was mistaken.

Rihanna continues her Middle Eastern charm offensive.

After reportedly coming on-stage two hours late, Rihanna got political at last night’s concert in Tel Aviv. During ‘Pour It Up’, the controversial singer changed “All I see is dollar signs” to “All I see is Palestine.” For what it’s worth, Haaretz notes that Rihanna constantly mentioned Tel Aviv but never Israel when shouting out the crowd.

Earlier this week, Rihanna was ejected from Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque for violating “the moral codes of access to the mosque” by “taking inappropriate pictures, posing in ways that are improper in the context of sacred place.”

Rihanna will run out of opportunities to offend the Middle East (for now) as her Diamonds World Tour heads to the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Barbados, and the US before wrapping up in November.
