Beats Music shuts out new users one day after launch

Dr. Dre’s music streaming app hits pause after rocketing up the iTunes chart.

Beat Music has closed the door on new users just one day after its U.S. launch in order to deal with bugs and glitches triggered by an “extremely high volume of interest.”

“Most people are unaffected but our priority is to give everyone a great experience,” wrote Ian Rogers, CEO of Beats Music, in a blog post. “We prepared for issues like these, have a plan, and are going to hold off on letting more people in while we put this plan in action.”

New users can still download the app and register, but they’ll have to wait for the sign from Beats Music before they can start streaming. Anyone who joined Beats Music on January 21 can continue using the service.

On the bright side, everyone who signed up will get an extra week added to their free trial, regardless of whether they’re having trouble with the app.

Beats Music bills itself as the streaming service with “intelligent curation”, a claim FACT’s Chris Kelly and John Twells put to the test in our first-look review yesterday. [via TheVerge]
