First batch of ace music-making gizmos on the way.

A coin-sized gadget designed to turn everyday objects into musical instruments has achieved its fundraising goal on Kickstarter, attracting over £50,000 in pledges from intrigued backers.

Created by computer music researcher Bruno Zamborlin, Mogees is a special contact microphone designed to interact with an app on a mobile or tablet.

It all looks pretty simple – just plug the sensor into a phone, attach it to an object and bash away, creating music instantly.

As shown in the video below, Zamborlin has set his up on glass tables, tree branches, car bonnets and fruit bowls (during a jam session with Rodrigo of Rodrigo Y Gabriela), and even on mats underneath dancers, allowing sounds to be triggered by their movement.

He’s even collaborated with Warp-signed electronic pioneers Plaid on a music video using sounds created entirely with Mogees.
