Stream six hours of Houston rap tapes from 1991 to the present day

Side dish accompanies new book on Texas hip hop.

Lance Scott Walker and Peter Beste have put together an epic mix of heat-baked and syrup-laced cuts to accompany their new book Houston Rap Tapes.

A companion to their Houston Rap photo book, the new volume contains interviews with local legends like Bun B, Willie D and Paul Wall plus stories from the scene as told by radio and club personalities, impresarios, former drug dealers and assorted local faces.

The mix stretches back to 1991’s ‘Convicts’ by Big Mike and Mr. 3-2 and up to the present day with tracks from Rob Gullatte and Hollywood FLOSS, with plenty of esoterica mixed in among the heavyweights like UGK, DJ Screw and Geto Boys.

No download but you can stream it in all its day-long glory below. [via Pigeons and Planes]
