Oxfam call for volunteer 'Gig Makers' to get involved with this year's Oxjam Music Festival

Gig Makers wanted for annual music fundraiser.

Oxfam has put out a call for volunteers to be part of this year’s Oxjam Music Festival, the month-long gig series and charity fundraiser that takes place in cities, towns and villages across the UK.

Since the first event in 2006, Oxjam Gig Makers have raised over £2.3 million for Oxfam GB by putting on shows in pubs, shops, concert halls, community spaces and street corners – wherever a pair of a speakers and a few dozen, or a few hundred, music fans can cram themselves in.

Now Oxfam needs your help to get this October’s Oxjam up and running – and it couldn’t be easier to get involved.

Genre isn’t important – any music, from punk to grime to free jazz or whatever you fancy, can be part of the festival – and previous years have seen performances from the likes of Four Tet, Ghostpoet, Damon Albarn, 2 Many DJs, Hot Chip and Graham Coxon.

“All you need to make an Oxjam event happen is a set of decks, a few choice tunes and a place to play them, so there’s really no excuse not to get involved,” as Oxjam supporter Norman Cook, AKA Fatboy Slim, puts it.

Oxjam provide all the training and guidance you need to make your night a success and raise the profile of your local scene while adding skills to your CV – just sign up online to receive a Gig Maker pack with everything you need to get started.

So whether you’ve already got experience putting on shows or you’re a complete beginner, it only takes a minute to get involved and find out how local music can have a global impact.
