The former country darling is the latest pop singer to use twerking dancers in her music video.

Odd Future rapper Earl Sweatshirt has criticised Taylor Swift for “perpetuating black stereotypes” in the video for her new single, ‘Shake If Off’.

The clip, which sees Swift dressed up in gold earrings and booty shorts while surrounded by dancers in the same get-up, most of whom – though not all – appear to be African-American, was deemed “inherently offensive and ultimately harmful” by the rapper.

The video is “perpetuating black stereotypes to the same demographic of white girls who hide their prejudice by proclaiming their love of the culture,” he tweeted, adding: “for instance, those of you who are afraid of black people but love that in 2014 it’s ok for you to be trill or twerk or say nigga”.

Swift’s facepalm-worthy video follows Lily Allen’s disastrous is-it-parody-or-is-it-just-awful video for ‘Hard Out Here’, in which a clothed Allen was flanked by twerking, half-naked black dancers, and Sky Ferreira’s ill-judged gangster fantasy in the video for ‘I Blame Myself’.
