Kanye hits back at media for sensationalising wheelchair incident

Kanye West has hit back at the media for sensationalising details of incident that occurred at a concert in Sydney, Australia last week.

Mr West was accused of “shaming” wheelchair-bound concertgoers for being unable to stand during the performance and was lambasted across the media amid claims that the rapper refused to continue his show until the disabled patrons stood up.

Footage has since emerged of the incident, and whilst the video is undoubtedly awkward and uncomfortable, at no point did Kanye berate the wheelchair-bound attendees as reported. At one point Yeezy stated, “If he’s in a wheelchair, that’s fine” – something that was not mentioned in mainstream press.

West criticised the sensationalising of the incident during a show in Brisbane over the weekend. “Welcome to today’s news, ladies and gentlemen. We got Americans getting killed on TV, we have kids getting killed every week in Chicago, we have unarmed people being killed by police officers, and we have Kanye West with an ice cream cone,” he said, referencing the now-infamous photo.

“They got this thing where they want the masses, people who never even heard one of my albums, to somehow read a headline that reads negative and to think I’m a bad person or something.” He continued: “I’m a married Christian man with a family — at my concerts, I make sure everybody has as good of a time as possible. So all of this demonising me, it ain’t going to work after a while.” West concluded: “Pick a new target, because I’m not one of those dumb-ass artists you’re used to.”
