Lost documentary from The Doors 1968 tour to be released 46 years after filming

The long lost documentary from The Doors 1968 summer tour Feast of Friends will be seeing an official release in November.

Feast of Friends was originally financed by the band however funding was pulled when frontman Jim Morrison was arrested in Miami for allegedly exposing himself to the audience. Until now the documentary had only circulated in grainy bootleg format, the source of which was purportedly Morrison himself.

Feast of Friends is the only official documentary film produced by the band. It was directed by filmmaker Paul Ferrara, who also photographed many of the bands iconic promotional images. The documentary is a blend of live performance and behind the scenes footage. According to the press release, the film is captured “in true 60’s cinéma vérité style. It’s comprised of concert performances which are intercut with fly-on-the-wall footage of the group in their natural habitat — playful, sensitive, chaotic and touching. This is a chaotic yet gentle picture of the humanistic side of The Doors seldom captured by anyone — at that time or since.”

The film has been fully remastered and will be available to purchase on 11 November. Check out the trailer below. [via Rolling Stone]
