Legendary imprint Warp Records will be handling BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix next weekend.

The label has been a crucial part of the British music scene for many years now, releasing stand-out albums from Autechre, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada and more recently Flying Lotus. Next week, the Warp crew (or at least one of their number – could it be Aphex Twin himself?) will be stepping into the BBC 1 studios to provide a two-hour Essential Mix, which will be broadcast next Saturday at 4:00 – 6:00 AM GMT.

The announcement was revealed on the Essential Mix Twitter feed this morning, when they tweeted a picture of Warp’s iconic logo with the Essential Mix logo embedded inside.

Update: Warp has clarified their involvement today in website post; the label will indeed be contributing a special mix (in celebration of their 25th anniversary) “by the Warp roster,” and will be debuting a series of exclusive sessions at the BBC’s Maida Vale studios on Benji B’s show on Thursday December 11. Darkstar, Squarepusher, Clark, Hudson Mohawke and Flying Lotus are involved in the session and patten, Mount Kimbie, Clark, Nightmares on Wax, Bibio and Plaid have been tagged on the Essential Mix.

In other Warp-related news, Aphex Twin is up for a Grammy. Seriously.
