Spaces might not be a familiar name yet, but he’s certainly attracted the ears of the right people.

Last year Spaces – otherwise known as Irish producer John Flynn – released his debut EP on the Bleep store’s in-house record label. A four-track collection of tunes with rhythmic nods to the early IDM of Warp artists Autechre and Squarepusher, its brisk, colourful textures owed just as much to classic Detroit electro.

Prior to that his music found a early fan in Björk. When Vulnicura was announced last month, a hand-written note from the artist revealed that as well as the involvement of Arca and The Haxan Cloak, one of the songs had been co-written with Flynn, who Björk had approached back in 2013 to work on album closer ‘Quicksand’.

Those whose interest was piqued by the track can now get to know Spaces a little more intimately with a free EP from the producer. Available to download or stream below, the four-track Potential is another trip through juddering machine-funk and driving rhythms in the vein of his debut, and should set you up nicely for the producer’s second EP on Bleep to be released soon. Look out also for a mooted debut album and live show hitting clubs and festivals later this year.
