The Warehouse will tell the story of the famed nightclub of the same name.

While we’re still very much intrigued by the forthcoming N.W.A. movie Straight Outta Compton, it looks like there’s another musical biopic in the works to get excited about. As RA reports, Barbershop producer Bob Teitel is planning another movie set in the city, this time looking at the early days of Chicago’s house scene.

The Warehouse will revolve around the influential nightclub of the same name, telling the story of owner Robert Williams and famed resident Frankie Knuckles. The subject is evidently one close to the heart of the Chicago native, who is co-producing alongside entertainment entrepreneur Billy Dec, entertainment attorney Randy Crumpton, and Joe Shanahan, owner of Chicago venues Metro and Smart Bar.

“Growing up in Chicago, I always knew about The Warehouse and its ties to house/dance music,” said Teitel in a press release. “What amazes me is what started as a fad in a small Chicago club in the late seventies has evolved into the biggest genre of music in the world.”

While there’s no details on casting or a release date yet, the movie will be launched at a party at The Underground in Chicago on March 31, exactly one year after Knuckles’ death. All proceeds will go to the Frankie Knuckles Foundation, which aims to continue the DJ’s mission to act as a global ambassador of the music of Chicago.
