The debut track was produced by TV On The Radio’s David Sitek.

Scarlett Johansson has returned to music and she’s brought Este Haim along with her. Her new girl group-inspired project, The Singles, which includes Haim, Holly Miranda, Kendra Morris, and Julia Haltigan debuted their first single ‘Candy’ today.

‘Candy’ is an ultra glossy pop song produced by TV On The Radio member David Sitek that brings to mind the band’s synth excursions on last year’s Seeds. Sitek also produced Anywhere I Lay My Head, Johansson’s 2008 Tom Waits cover album and will release ‘Candy’ through his label Federal Prism. Johansson discussed the project in the premiere for Rolling Stone.

“The idea was to write super-pop dance music written and performed by girls,” she said, citing inspirations reaching from The Bangles and The Go-Gos to Grimes. “I wanted it to be like those bands: ultra-pop but also a little ironic, a little in on the joke.”
