Tidal has given us the most compelling reason to pay for a subscription yet.

Jay Z is going above and beyond the call of duty to deliver great customer service – he’s been personally calling Tidal subscribers to thank them for purchasing a subscription.

The information was revealed to Business Insider by Tidal executive Vania Schlogel, who said that Tidal’s team of celebrity owners have been given accounts to view stats and monitor which users have been listening to their music. That system also allows the musicians to get in contact with their fans directly, although it’s unclear how they got their personal phone numbers – when we signed up to Tidal, there didn’t seem to be a space to input that information.

It’s not just been Jay Z who’s been calling up users of the streaming service – Jack White has taken time off from pressing an early Elvis Presley acetate to vinyl for Record Store Day to thank his fans too.

It seems to be Jay Z himself who’s proved the biggest hit, however. “He called some of his fans and one of them made the funniest comment,” Scholgel revealed. “He said, ‘This is the best customer service call I’ve ever received!'”

So there we have it – if you want an unsolicited phonecall from Deadmau5, buy a Tidal subscription. [via Stereogum]
