Plus, the rapper hopes to finish A$AP Yams’ album.

A$AP Rocky will release his eagerly-anticipated second album At. Long. Last. ASAP on May 12. While he’s been steadily releasing bits of music and information about the album, an interview with Billboard touches on the its reference points, which surprisingly include trip-hop heavyweights Portishead and Massive Attack, Thom Yorke and “old ’60s psychedelic shit” like The Kinks and The Stooges.

“I’ve been listening to T. Rex all day,” he tells Billboard. “You fuck with Electric Warrior? That fucking album? Man! Let’s talk about perfection.” He’s also working on a short film to accompany the album, drawing from Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel for inspiration. “It’s one of my favorite films at the moment… I love that aesthetic.”

In addition, he’s working on an album that A$AP Yams “conceived” before his death earlier this year. “He left his notebooks, he left his blueprint,” he says. “His album’s fucking incredible. I want to finish what he started.”
