The controversial artist is one of Chino Moreno’s favourite lyricists.

Some more information on that new Deftones album due later this year – according to frontman Chino Moreno it’s heavily influenced by Morrissey.

“I’ve been on this crazy Morrissey kick recently – totally obsessing over his solo records – so I brought a lot of that to the table,” Moreno told NME. “On those early solo records, he uses this awesome, Elvis-y delay on his vocal that I’ve been ripping off a ton. He’s always been a favourite lyricist of mine – the beautiful poetic melancholy of it all.”

Moreno also revealed the album is “full of keyboards and a lot of cool, spacey low frequencies” and “organic jams”, but that it’s still going to be a heavy affair with lots of “jagged and coarse bits”.

The as yet untitled album is set for release on September 25, and is their first since 2012’s Koi No Yokan. It was first announced back in March, and the band described it as “more heady” than the last.
