You Really Got Me will star former indie-folk singer Johnny Flynn as Ray Davies.

Julien Temple is directing a biopic about 60s rock group The Kinks. The British filmmaker, who’s helmed dozens of rock docs over the years including The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle and Glastonbury, will shoot the drama later this year with Johnny Flynn and George Mackay as brothers Ray and Dave Davies, and his daughter Juno Temple as Ray’s former wife Raza.

TV screenwriting duo Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, known for Porridge, The Likely Lads and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, will work on the script.

“This is an exciting chance to tell The Kinks story in a visceral and real way,” Temple told Screen. “The lyrics of The Kinks have always been fascinating to me and there is an amazing human story here as well which has yet to be captured on film.”

The filmmakers have got the rights to the band’s music, and Ray and Dave Davies will also work on the soundtrack. The film comes soon after Sunny Afternoon, a musical based on the band’s early career and featuring new music by Ray Davies, which opened to rave reviews in London’s West End this year.
