Abramovic has issued an apology claiming she was not informed of Jay Z’s donation to her institute.

Marina Abramovic was “very pissed” earlier this week, expressing her disappointment with Jay Z in a new interview with Spike Magazine. Abramovic claimed the rapper failed to live up to his end of an agreement between the pair, describing their 2013 performance as a “one-way transaction.” “I am very pissed by this, since he adapted my work only under one condition: that he would help my institute. Which he didn’t,” she said.

Abramovic made an appearance at Jay Z’s six-hour performance of ‘Picasso Baby’, an event inspired by her 2010 MoMA exhibition The Artist Is Present. At the time, Abramovic’s spokespeople claimed that Jay planned “to offer the institute some other form of ongoing support” in a “long-durational collaboration.”

Following Abramovic’s claims, New York art dealer and ‘Picasso Baby’ video producer Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn revealed that she was in possession of a receipt from Abramovic’s institute that “acknowledges a substantial donation” from Jay Z. Abramovic has today issued an apology regarding her earlier statement.

“Marina Abramovic was not informed of Shawn ‘Jay Z’ Carter’s donation from two years ago when she recently did an interview with Spike Magazine in Brazil,” reads a statement published by the Marina Abramovic Institute in Hudson, N.Y.. “We are sincerely sorry to both Marina Abramovic and Shawn ‘Jay Z’ Carter for this, and since then we have taken to appropriate actions to reconcile this matter.” [via The Fader]
