That’s comparable to Spotify.

We now know how much Apple Music will be paying rights holders during the service’s free trial period – The New York Times reports it will be 0.2 cents per stream.

Though it sounds small, it’s actually similar to what Spotify pays on its free tiers. The amount doesn’t yet include a smaller fee for songwriting rights that goes to music publishers, which Apple is reportedly still negotiating.

Apple had originally intended to pay rights holders nothing during the streaming service’s three-month trial period, but reversed its decision following pressure from artists like Taylor Swift and independent music organisations like Beggars Group and Merlin, who have now inked their own deals with the service.
