One of the 20th century’s most influential records is getting a major reissue.

A Love Supreme: The Complete Masters includes all the material – every take, overdub, and recorded conversation – from John Coltrane’s two-day recording session in 1964 (the album came out in February 1965).

Compiled by Verve Music Group, the reissue includes “long-lost session reels” from a second-day session featuring Coltrane and his quartet (Elvin Jones, Jimmy Garrison, and McCoy Tyner) accompanied by Archie Shepp and Dr. Art Davis.

The album will be available on November 6 in a 2xCD set featuring the original album with mono reference versions of two tracks and seven unreleased performances, plus a 32-page booklet with an essay, photos, and all of Coltrane’s known musical sketches and written works which shaped the album.

Hardcore aficionados can look out for the 3xCD “Super Deluxe Edition”, which includes a performance from the Festival Mondial du Jazz Antibes in July 1965 and an introduction by Carlos Santana. [via Pitchfork]
