The doom metal heroes will release their first album since 2009.
According to press materials, the album consists of “three pieces of a triadic whole” and celebrates the band’s traditions: it was recorded and mixed with collaborator Randall Dunn and includes performances by Attila Csihar, Oren Ambarchi, Rex Ritter, Steve Moore and others.
Kannon is described as their most outright “metal” album in years. The title comes from as aspect of Buddhism, and the band commissioned critical theorist Aliza Shvartz to write a text and liner notes around the subject.
The album will be released on gatefold LP, CD and digital on December 4, with a limited number of clear vinyl copies on Black Friday Record Store Day on November 27.
