Watch footage from the Moroccan sufi trance group’s eighth annual festival.

Each year, the Master Musicians Of Joujouka welcome guests to their village in the Rif Mountains for a weekend of traditional Moroccan music. Folk sets can be heard during the day, whilst the evenings bring blasts of sonic drone from the double reed rhaitas and polyrhythmic drumming as part of the ritual Boujeloud performance.

The Master Musicians Of Joujouka were mythologised by Brian Jones’ landmark 1968 album Brian Jones Presents The Pipes Of Pan, which was recorded in the band’s village. The Master Musicians collaborated with late jazz great Ornette Coleman on Dancing With Your Head, and also appeared on William S. Burroughs’ Break Through In The Grey Room.
