It’s true what Todd Terje says: “If you own a synth, you need to cover a Vangelis track at some point.”
The Greek composer is responsible for some of the most memorable synth lines in film history, although to be honest, we can’t ID this one. Is it the theme from Ridley Scott’s 1492: Conquest of Paradise? Or is it something more obscure from Vangelis’ extensive archives? Tweet us if you know.
More importantly, Terje selects one of the strangest synths in his armoury for his performance, the Analogue Systems French Connection. It’s controlled by a nylon cord which you move with your finger, mimicking the technique of an early electronic instrument, the Ondes Martenot. Synth nerds may know that Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, a big fan of the Ondes Martenont’s unique tone and playability, commissioned this ‘French Connection’ synth from Analogue Systems.
