“Ten times out of nine, I know you’re lying / But nine times out of ten, I know you’re trying” is about the music industry – not Jay Z.

Beyoncé collaborator and fellow Houston native Ingrid Burley has revealed that ‘Love Drought’ – the infidelity ballad from Lemonade – is not about Bey’s marriage, but Burley’s own experience with Bey’s label Parkwood Entertainment.

In an interview with Genius, Burley said: “two of the people who were running the label at the time lied to me and told me that Beyoncé wasn’t currently listening to any new music” when an A&R for the label told Burley that Beyoncé was. Burley made it her mission to get Beyoncé to sing about her experience: “The only way that I could really get over it was like, ‘She’s gonna sing the song I wrote about her label one day.'”
