“To effect change we must show love in the face of hate.”

Last night, Beyoncéƒ shared a video on Instagram as a tribute to the five police officers killed in Dallas on Thursday night during a protest about the recent murders of Alton Sterling and Philando Castle. Alongside the five slain officers, another seven and two civilians were injured by rifle fire.

The video features the Texas flag and the names of the five officers – Lorne Ahrens, Michael Krol, Michael Smith, Brent Thompson, and Patrick Zamarripa – flashing in a loop.

Beyoncé also wrote a note with the video calling for non-violent solutions to the problems currently facing America:

“Rest in peace to the officers whose lives were senselessly taken yesterday in Dallas. I am praying for a full recovery of the seven others injured. No violence will create peace. Every human life is valuable. We must be the solution. Every human being has the right to gather in peaceful protest without suffering more unnecessary violence. To effect change we must show love in the face of hate and peace in the face of violence.”

Earlier this week, Beyoncé released a statement via her website about police killings saying “we don’t need sympathy. We need everyone to respect our lives.”
