Techno, experimental music and Québec’s influential metal scene all to be put under the spotlight.

After this year’s June edition, MUTEK Montréal isn’t coming back for nearly a year, but the festival has now teamed with Red Bull Music Academy for a series of events sure to tide you over till its return.

The festival kicks off this weekend, September 24, with a techno party featuring Rrose, Aurora Halal, DJ Richard, Xosar and more spinning from 6pm to 6am.

Things get noisier on September 30 with an all-Canadian edition of the RBMA staple, Drone Activity In Progress, featuring Tim Hecker, Kara-Lis Coverdale, Venetian Snares and a showcase of the city’s metal scene. The festival will provide a strong counterpoint later on October 3 with a night dedicated to synthesizer and new age music culminating in a performance between Buchla masters Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith and Suzanne Ciani.

Red Bull Music Academy’s full month of events will also include a roller-disco hosted by Dâm-Funk, a showcase of beloved Montréal electronic label 1080p, and Pauline Oliveros performing in a planetarium. It all takes place from September 24 to October 28. Check the full calendar and grab tickets here.
