Lil Yachty turns the Sailing Team into a hockey team in his new video for ‘Minnesota’.
The song has gotten a ton of new attention for the Atlanta rapper because of its use in a Sprite commercial featuring NBA superstar LeBron James. We’d image Yachty didn’t want to keep it relegated to basketball because there are already so many rap videos dedicated to the sport, particularly Master P’s legendary ‘Make ‘Em Say Uhh’.
But ‘Minnesota’ actually evokes an unsung ’90s video: Onyx’s ‘React’ featuring a then-unknown 50 Cent. The Queens trio didn’t just set their clip at the skating rink, they actually got in the game. Here, Yachty and his crew spare themselves some bumps and bruises by choosing to party over tapping into their inner-Wayne Gretskys.
