The album and accompanying hour-long film are available to stream.

James Franco’s art school rock band Daddy have released a new album and art film inspired by The Smiths.

Let Me Get What I Want, a homage to the Manchester band’s 1984 single ‘Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want’, also features The Smiths’ bassist Andy Rourke, who plays on every song on the album.

Speaking of the album’s influences, Franco previously said in a press release: “We loved the sound of the English New Wave, especially the Smiths. The album was meant to reflect that, but with our own twists. The experiences of youth play so well into this sound.”

Accompanying the 10-track release are individual clips for each track that combine to form an hour-long conceptual film.

Daddy is made up of Franco and multi-instrumentalist Tim O’Keefe. The duo isn’t Franco’s first venture into music-related projects – he’s also written an entire book about Lana Del Rey.
