The EP is the group’s first release in three years.

Nine Inch Nails have released their new EP Not the Actual Events.

The group’s follow-up to their 2013 album Hesitation Marks is now streaming on Apple Music. Listen below.

Frontman Trent Reznor has previously described the EP as “an unfriendly, fairly impenetrable record that we needed to make.”

The credits list Dave Grohl as a drum player on the track ‘The Idea of You’, while Dave Navarro plays on ‘Burning Bright (Field on Fire)’, and Reznor’s wife and How to Destroy Angels bandmate, Mariqueen Maandig, appears on ‘She’s Gone Away’.

Yesterday, Reznor revealed that he will release “two new major” NIN projects next year, in an interview with Beats 1’s Zane Lowe.

He also said the band currently have no plans to bring NIN’s new material to live shows soon.

NIN are also planning to reissue several of their early releases on vinyl including The Fragile, The Downward Spiral and Broken – the first of which will come with 37 bonus tracks.

“We want to present the catalog as it was intended to be, with no compromises,” Reznor said of the re-releases. “That means a careful remastering of the audio from the original sources, a painstaking recreation of the artwork, pristine materials, some surprises and an insane attention to detail.”

Reznor has been busy working on soundtracks over the past few years. In 2016 alone, he scored Leonardo DiCaprio’s climate change awareness film Before The Flood, Peter Berg’s Boston Marathon bombing movie Patriot’s Day and even NASA’s mission to Jupiter together with long-time collaborator Atticus Ross. Ross, who also contributed to NIN’s latest EP, is now an official member of the band.
