The viral hit started out as a BBC Comic Relief sketch in 2011.

The late George Michael will be remembered for many things, but he will also go down in history as the first guest on James Corden‘s Carpool Karaoke.

In 2011, Michael joined James Corden for a BBC Comic Relief sketch that would inspire the viral segment on Corden’s Late Late Show on CBS.

Corden was among those tweeting tributes to the late singer, who died on Christmas Day at the age of 53.

“I’ve loved George Michael for as long as I can remember,” he said. “He was an absolute inspiration. Always ahead of his time.”
