The composer plans a massive year for his 80th birthday.

Philip Glass will premiere his Symphony No. 11 this month on his birthday, January 31, and the composer has revealed new details and events that will fill the celebration-packed year.

Glass will hold Carnegie Hall’s Richard and Barbara Debs Composer’s Chair for the 2017-2017 season, a year-long residency that will include premieres and classics. Glass’s own ensemble will join with the San Francisco Girls Chorus for a rare performance of his Music With Changing Parts, while another event will feature Nico Muhly performing arrangements of the composer’s lesser known work.

The American Composers Orchestra will perform a program highlighting works from younger composers inspired by Glass and the JACK string quartet will premiere a new composition. In additon, the Louisiana Philharmonic and Pacific Symphony have both been invited by the composer to perform. Carnegie’s annual Tibet House U.S. Benefit Concert will also be centered around Glass’ work.

Tributes can be found outside of the legendary concert hall as well through many previously announced “Glass @ 80” events at London’s Barbican, North Carolina’s Carolina Performing Arts, Brooklyn’s National Sawdust and the Tribeca Film Festival where the composer will live score Jean Cocteau’s fantasy classic Beauty And The Beast.
