The ultimate beginner’s guide.

Thirty years of music from Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds will be re-released this spring in a new box set called Lovely Creatures.

Named for a song on the Bad Seeds’ beloved album Murder Ballads, the collection is nearly career-spanning with editions that feature music from 1984 all the way to 2014.

It comes in 2xCD and 3xLP, as well as a 3xCD-DVD with a 48-page book. There is also a Super Deluxe Limited Edition, which upgrades the aforementioned package with a 256-page hardcover book featuring essays, photos and reproductions of memorabilia.

“There are some people out there who just don’t know where to start with The Bad Seeds. Others know the catalogue better than I do! This release is designed to be a way into three decades of music making. That’s a lot of songs,” Cave says of the collection. “The songs we have chosen are the ones that have stuck around, for whatever reason. Some songs are those that demand to be played live. Others are lesser songs that are personal favorites of ours. Others are just too big and have too much history to leave out. And there are those that didn’t make it, poor things. They are the ones you must discover by yourselves.”

Lovely Creatures is out May 5 via Mute Records. Check out the artwork and watch a trailer for the box set below. Pre-order is available here.
