As previously reported, the Barcelona-based Sónar festival transplants itself to Chicago next month.

Sónar Chicago will take place on September 9-11, primarily at the Chicago Cultural Center and the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. Adventures In Modern Music, a series of events staged in collaboration with The Wire, will present additional performances in clubs and other venues around the city. The line-up for the festival has now been finalised.

Organisers hope to establish Sónar Chicago as a regular happening; the line-up emphasizes Chicago and Catalan talent while also featuring a number of international stars of electronic music and art.

The opening event takes place on September 9 at the Gehry-designed Jay Pritzker Pavillion, with performances from Jimmy Edgar, The Slew feat. Kid Koala, Martyn, Bradien and Faraon. For the afternoons of September 10 and 11, the action moves to the Chicago Cultural Center, with scheduled sets from Ben Frost, Lesley Flanigan, Nosaj Thing and Oval.

There’s plenty of clubwise entertainment on offer as well: on September 10 at the Smart Bar, Sónar and Red Bull Music Academy present live shows by Black Devil Disco Club and Space Dimension Controller, plus DJ sets from Appleblim, Cosmin TRG and Todd Osborn.

AIMM (Adventures In Modern Music) call upons the Rhys Chatham Trio, Sleep, High Places, Efterklang and Wooden Shjips.
