Cast your minds back to 2011. You’ll probably recall that The Weeknd made a bit of an impression.

Abel Tesfaye’s narcotised R&B project had almost everything: acres of buzz; a captivating brand; and, most importantly, the best record of the year. Note the qualifying ‘almost’ – for all his ubiquity, Tesfaye’s live appearances were far and few between. Now, Tesfaye will be giving his astonishing back catalogue the live treatment in Europe.

So far, Tesfaye’s only confirmed appearance is Barcelona’s Primavera Sound festival, where he’ll be performing on June 2 on the Pitchfork Media stage. In doing so, he’ll be treading the same boards as Grimes, Danny Brown, A$AP Rocky, Rustie, SBTRKT, James Ferraro and AraabMUZIK.

Other acts on the Primavera bill include BjörkMichael Gira, Forest Swords, Hype Williams, The xx and Demdike Stare. The festival runs from June 30-May 2, with tickets priced at 190€.
