R Kelly might be rebooting his Trapped In The Closet series, but recent reports about his financial affairs suggest he might well need to spend time hiding in there as well.

NME report that the R&B megastar owes an eye-watering $4.8m in back taxes. The Internal Revenue Service claims that Kelly’s stretch of unpaid bills date all the way back to 2005. The singer’s Chicago mansion pad has already been submitted for foreclosure. For one thing, it certainly puts George Clinton’s measly $115k tax bill into perspective. R Kelly’s spokesperson is yet to comment.

R Kelly has a new record on the way, titled Write Me Back (a title we’re presuming he lifted from the scores of anxious late payment notices cascading through his letterbox). The singer is also set to host a cruise trip around the Carribean in September. The Love Letter Cruise will include performances and salsa lessons, with tickets starting at $999. Let’s hope the semantic ambiguity over the word ‘host’ doesn’t lead to even more trouble.
