All manner of myths, legends and chatter have swirled around Chicago rapper Chief Keef this year.

Like fellow buzz-getter Haleek Maul, Keef is both incredibly young (sixteen) and disarmingly precocious. The stripling has spent the last couple of years building a name in Chi-town through persistent promotion in high schools, and is reportedly under house arrest for weapons charges. Flagship track ‘Bang’ just about sums up his schtick: Brick Squad beats, a wafer-thing voice, juvenile re-imaginings of classic street-knock hip-hop. Keef’s profile rose further when Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music crew covered his ‘I Don’t Like’ track, something the track’s producer was less than happy about.

According to MTV, Keef has now inked a deal with Interscope records. Keef’s clearly been won over by the label’s star wattage: “I’ve been talkin’ to a lot of labels, but I just noticed that Interscope got people like 50, Eminem”. A publishing deal has also been signed with Dr. Dre. Bad Boy, Def Jam and Cash Money are among the labels who have also expressed interest. Watch ‘I Don’t Like’ in its original form below.
