It must be a danger for all musicians.

You’re partway through a set, and it’s going swimmingly. You’re basking in the glow of adoration from the crowd, your ego swelling by the second – and before you know it, unhinged rightwing paranoia starts spilling out of your mouth with unstoppable force.

Last week, it happened to Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine, who accused Obama of staging the Aurora massacre and other recent shootings in order to push through firearm legislation.

This week, it’s the turn of country singer Hank Williams, Jr. (son of country legend Hank Williams) [via The Guardian]. Performing at the Iowa State Fair, Williams reportedly described Obama as a “Muslim president” who “hates farming, hates the military, hates the US and we hate him!” The comments were apparently met with enthusiasm from the crowd.

Fans and detractors shouldn’t be surprised – Williams has past form. His song ‘All My Rowdy Friends’ was the theme to a weekly football show on major sports channel ESPN for 20 years – that is, until he compared the President to Adolf Hitler in an interview last year.
