Deconstruct Kendrick Lamar's classic new LP with good kid, m.A.A.d City - The Samples

Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d City is one of those rare records that lives up to the giddy expectations.

As yesterday’s FACT review stressed, Lamar’s major label debut is one of the most intelligently and intricately constructed rap albums in absolutely yonks. It’s also stuffed with some absolutely dynamite production, including Hit-Boy’s ‘Monster’ rewrite ‘Backseat Freestyle’, Tha Bizness’ incredible ‘Sherane a.k.a. Master Splinter’s Daughter’ and Pharrell’s late career highlight ‘Good Kid’.

Listeners who are interested in unpicking those beats are advised to check out Babylon Cartel’s good kid, m.A.A.d City – The Samples mixtape, which collects all the tracks sampled in the album in sequential order. Kool And The Gang, Ohio Players and Beach House (who were famously sampled to death on The Weeknd’s House Of Balloons) all feature, as do Janet Jackson and Kanye West. [via Potholes In My Blog]
