Abel Tesfaye, alias The Weeknd, has released his first full bit of new material in absolutely yonks.

Last night, Tesfaye took to Twitter to write “NYC three shows back to back starts tonight. and for the fans that can’t make it, i got something for you. xo.” The post linked to a brittle new song, titled ‘Enemy’.

The track, it should be noted, isn’t one of the three new tracks set to feature on forthcoming mixed’n’mastered retrospective Trilogy, which collects all three of Tesfaye’s 2011 mixtape series.

‘Enemy’ is a fairly fragile piece, setting a music box motif over clattering drums that bring Echoes Of Silence’ s ‘Next’ to mind. The lyrics – “Girl I’m just trying to make you numb with out a word/Girl I’m just trying to make you come without a word” – are Tesfaye to a T. Bizarrely, there also appears to be a heavily distorted sample of The Smiths yearning Hatful Of Hollow classic ‘Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want’.

Trilogy drops on November 26 via Universal Republic
