After the letters, the videos and the leaks, Trilogy is finally here.
If you spent any time around these parts – or indeed, anywhere near a computer – in 2011, it’s a strong likelihood that you’ve already heard the bulk of the music on Trilogy, collecting as it does The Weeknd’s seminal House Of Balloons/Thursday/Echoes Of Silence mixtape triptych. Still, Trilogy remains worth a spin. Trainspotters can judge whether the remastered versions are improvements or just simulacra; more casual fans can sample the three new tracks included on the release (including the Morrissey-aping ‘Enemy’); and the unfamiliar can feel the full force of three hours of heartsore, aphotic R&B. ‘Initiaition’ indeed.
