Documentarian Volker Schaner has followed and filmed the Jamaican legend for the past 14 years.

For the uninitiated: Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry is an instrumental figure in the development and proliferation of reggae and dub music. From producing records for Bob Marley & the Wailers in the 1970s to his recent album with The Orb, his mark on music history is indelible.

For 14 years, German filmmaker Volker Schaner has followed Perry on a “spiritual and geographical journey” that has taken him to Jamacia, Ethopia, Germany, Switzerland and London and given him unprecedented access to the musician’s unique world. But to complete this “fairytale documentary,” entitled Vision Of Paradise, Schaner has turned to the Kickstarter community.

With filming complete, Vision Of Paradise requires $20,000 for post-production (as of this writing, 78 backers have already pledged $5,410, with 21 days left to raise the remaining $14,000 and change). Pledges can receive everything from screensavers and DVDs to concert tickets and a VIP diner with Perry and the director.

Interested parties should watch the video above or head over to the Kickstarter page. Last year, Perry and The Orb toasted their album with a FACT mix.
