Watch Dick And Dom's CBBC documentary about Delia Derbyshire

Out of the Bungalow, into the Workshop.

For readers of a younger extraction, Delia Derbyshire is best known for her seminal work with the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, and is recognised as one of the great pioneers of British electronic music. For readers of an older vintage, Dick and Dom are regulars on kids channel CBBC, and are recognised as two of the great pioneers of the catchphrase “Bogies!”.

The pair are currently hosting a CBBC show called Absolute Genius, which sees them study great historical innovators and attempt to recreate their achievements. So far, the series has focused on Archimedes, Isaac Newton and Michael Faraday. Derbyshire is the latest addition to that illustrious list, with Dick And Dom dedicating a full half-hour show to her life and times.

The programme sees the not-in-any-way-irritating pair lark around with reel-to-reel tape, attempt a thoroughly crap Orbital impression, and rip off current Radiophonic Workshop head Matthew Herbert by taking audio samples from a live pig. Click here to watch.

A more highbrow celebration of Derbyshire’s work took place in Manchester last month. Delia Derbyshire Day saw arts venue Band On The Wall host talks, performances, and a screening of Kara Blake’s The Delian Mode documentary.
