John Lydon’s angry mob to see LP, 7″ and 12″ releases reissued.

Virgin Records has announced the reissue of three records by post-punk innovators Public Image Ltd as part of its 40th anniversary celebrations.

The series will begin with 1986’s Album (also titled Cassette and Compact Disc, depending on the chosen format) which featured Afrika Bambaataa’s band Time Zone, guitar shredder Steve Vai, Miles Davis’ drummer Tony Williams and Ginger Baker, plus Bill Laswell at the controls.

Album will be released as a picture-disc 180gram vinyl on October 21, followed seven days later by the limited 7″ picture disc release of 1983 single ‘This is Not a Love Song’, which comes backed with the Eric ET Thorngren mix of ‘USLS1’ from the ‘Warrior’ 7″ single.

Rounding off the series will be a double A-side 12″ of ‘Rise’ (1986) and ‘Warrior’ (1989 12″ extended mix) out on November 4. Virgin will also be launching an exhibition of the label’s history, including a selection of rare PiL memorabilia, pictures and records, from October 24 in London’s Southampton Row.

Earlier this year the band’s 1978 debut First Issue – which was never officially released in the USA at the time – was reissued by Light in the Attic Records. [via The Vinyl Factory]
