The music-streaming service introduces a new widget.

As it aims to become the default platform for sharing music online, Spotify has taken its ‘Follow’ button to the web to allow fans to connect with musicians, blogs and online magazines with one click.

The social widget will slot alongside the usual Facebook, Twitter and Google+ button and allow users to receive all new music, curated playlists and updates from their chosen artist or site. The button’s available for anyone to use – you can generate your own button here.

Spotify’s growth has provoked some artists to question its financial arrangements lately, particularly the matter of paying the musicians whose work is freely available through the service. Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich pulled the Atoms For Peace record from Spotify, claiming the service was “bad for new music”, while Ministry of Sound is currently suing the company for allowing users to mimic its club music compilations with their own playlists.
