The ‘Meat Is Murder’ singer targets the White House.

Morrissey has lashed out at President Obama over the Thanksgiving turkey pardon, the bizarre annual tradition of excusing a single turkey from being killed and eaten over the national holiday this weekend.

In a message posted via his semi-official fan site True To You, Morrissey accused Obama of “supporting torture” and said his actions set an “abysmal example”.

Morrissey is well known for his strong views on animal rights, and only last week wrote an extensive essay criticising “slackwitted” US TV presenter and hunting fanatic Melissa Bachman and the British royal family’s taste for shooting.

In other Moz news, further details have emerged of his plans to release a cover version of ‘Satellite of Love’ in tribute to Lou Reed, who passed away at the end of October. As well as a download available on December 3, the single come on both picture-disc seven-inch and heavyweight 12-inch formats with extra tracks, both set for release on January 28. The release will coincide with the audiobook of Morrissey’s wildly successful Autobiography, which will be read by Mancunian actor David Morrissey.

Further, the meat industry is responsible for 51% of human-caused greenhouse-gas emission, therefore the embarrassingly stupid White House ‘turkey pardon’ is open support for a viciously cruel and environmentally irresponsible industry.
