Bass Clef announces Bugbranded EP for Public Information

Top marks for artwork.

British producer Bass Clef has been one of the most constantly evolving and surprising artists at the fringes of electronic music over the past eight or so years, emerging with a debut LP in 2006 that drew on grime, dancehall and dubstep and a fascinating live show featuring his dubbed out trombone playing. Since then he’s evolved towards acid-flavoured 4/4 sounds hacked out of his modular synth set-up, peaking with 2012’s full-length Reeling Skullways.

As well as the previously announced Raven Y Own Worl EP for PAN, Ralph Cumbers has now announced another EP on the way for London label Public Information.

The four-track Bugbranded EP, which is apparently named after Bristol sound engineer Tom ‘Bugbrand’ Bugs, is described as being a development of the last album’s sound, “taking the crystalline drive and coarse groove of the acclaimed Reeling Skullways LP into hotwired groove zones”, as Juno Plus reports. Expect it on 12″ and digital formats on March 3.

Check out Cumbers’ FACT mix from way back in 2010, a showcase of some of the African music that’s his private passion, all meticulously ripped from vinyl and specially edited.
