Electronic figurehead reassembles sound collages for the dancefloor.
Ahead of his turn in the curator’s seat at the Southbank’s Meltdown Festival this spring, Mo’ Wax label boss and UNKLE producer James Lavelle has delivered a pair of remixes based on audio work by British sound artist Haroon Mirza.
Seeing as Mirza’s work often revolves around exploring social and cultural systems like club culture, the collaboration is a canny one – Lavelle turns the stems of Mirza’s pieces into two distinct tracks, one a brooding dancefloor number (the ‘Club Mix’) and the other a floaty comedown track (‘Ambient Mix’).
Titled o/o/o/o/, the collaboration is the latest in a series of remixes of Mirza’s work, following last year’s remixes by Factory Floor and Django Django’s Dave Maclean.
The record features sleeve artwork by Mirza and is being pressed in a limited run of 500 copies. It’s due out via The Vinyl Factory on March 10 – pre-order it here.
Last year Lavelle let FACT TV snoop around his extraordinary lock-up stuffed with records and memorabilia – watch parts one and two of our documentary, and listen to his recent Best of Mo’Wax mix.
