The New Zealand producer takes the Mancunian pair into a reflective new realm.
Next week sees the release of Akkord’s HTH035 on Houndstooth, which collects last year’s HTH020 EP together with a collection of remixes on a CD and digital package.
We’ve already heard The Haxan Cloak, Vatican Shadow and Regis’s take on Akkord’s precise blend of jungle and bass-heavy techno, and they were suitably massive in scale. Now we’ve got the last piece of the remix puzzle from experimental New Zealander Fis, and it might be the best of the bunch.
Following his fellow remixers’ lead, Fis’ ‘Hayfield To New Mills’ splices more than one Akkord track together into one piece of mutant engineering – in this case ‘Gravure’ and ‘Continuum’. Like his recent Tri Angle releases, it occupies that space where reflective orchestration and blackened distortion meet, much like a collision of Tim Hecker and Prurient.
Stream it below, and pre-order the package from the Houndstooth website ahead of its release on March 23.
