A man has been charged with scamming a South Korean steel company out of $375,000 (£250,000) by claiming he could bring Pharrell to Seoul.

The FBI says Sigismond Segbefia, who is from Ghana but now lives in the US, used a fake company to convince Dosko Co Ltd he could bring the superstar over for a concert. Sungdae Cho, president of Dosko, said the concert had been suggested by his son as part of the company’s plan to expand into entertainment.

Dosko sent the money to a company named Eastern Stars LLC, which claimed to be representing Pharrell. A day after the money was transferred, Segbefia allegedly withdrew more than $113,000 (£75,000) from a bank account connected to Eastern Stars, but the account was frozen when Dosko got suspicious and tried to halt the transfer.

Segbefia is also accused of sending “fake documents, emails addresses, and the names of Williams’ real management team” to Dosko before the money was transferred in August. The 28-year-old now faces several criminal charges, including bank fraud, and he also faces identity theft charges for previous alleged scams. He has been ordered to appear in court in May.

In other Pharrell news, he’s produced Snoop Dogg’s latest single ‘So Many Pros’. [via BBC Newsbeat]
