The 10,000 Hz Legend strikes out alone with an album of “contemporary classical pop”.

After seven albums with his alma mater Air, French producer Nicolas Godin has announced his first solo LP.

Contrepoint combines Godin’s own taste for pop, film soundtracks, soft rock, exotica and 80s Eurodance with eight works by man-of-the-moment Johann Sebastian Bach. Each work serves as a jumping-off point for Godin’s compositions, with Canadian pianist Glenn Gould (who’s known for his interpretations of Bach’s keyboard pieces) acting as a “spiritual guide”.

Godin promises that the project itself will have a strong visual component, with the first video coming from director Sean Pecknold – watch ‘Orca’ below and look out for Contrepoint later this year on Because Music. Godin will be also performing a special one-off live show on June 4 at the Villa Medici in Rome.

Bach is a popular guy in the world of synth-loving composers right now, with his keyboard works being performed by Will Gregory’s Moog Ensemble and Nommos architect Craig Leon in recent months.
