The Who have claimed they replaced Prince in the Sunday headline slot at Glastonbury last month.

A blog on the band’s official website revealed to fans: “Not many know that we were a last-months [sic] addition to the show, replacing Prince who decided not to come this year.”

NME reports that the update was written by a crew member and occasional keyboardist for the band, who also claimed that the band’s equipment was tampered with before they went on stage: “As we began to prepare our coming changeover, we found someone had sabotaged the carefully-tested audio connections for much of our gear. We’ve never seen that before, but we’re good at plugging things in, so all damage was repaired in time. Was it Mr. Weller or Lionel, no way. Dalai Lama – hmmm…. he did steal the show already.”

Prince has long been rumoured for a Pyramid Stage slot at Glastonbury, with bookies putting him joint favourite to headline in 2014. In April this year tabloids reported that the Purple One had pulled out of the festival, a rumour denied by organiser Emily Eavis.
